Brain Development & Early Learning

Why It Matters:

By age 3, a child’s brain forms over 1 million new neural connections per second (Center on the Developing Child, Harvard University). Early interactions, experiences, and environments play a major role in shaping intelligence, emotional regulation, and social skills.

What You Can Do:

  • Talk & Narrate Everything: Engage in serve-and-return interactions by responding to your child’s babbles, gestures, and sounds.
  • Read Daily: Reading enhances vocabulary, cognitive skills, and emotional bonding.
  • Screen Time for Young Children: The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against media use for children under 18 months, except for video chatting. For ages 18-24 months, if screen time is introduced, it should be high-quality content, and parents should engage with their child while watching instead of allowing independent viewing.
